Stem Cell therapy can help your pet enjoy exercise and reduce the need for painkilling medication

How Acupuncture For Dogs Works

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting fine needles into the body for pain relief. It works by stimulating nerves and sending out messages through the nervous system to block pain. It encourages the body’s natural healing process and can manage pain well. It may sound painful or uncomfortable, but it can be a relief and relaxant for dogs dealing with pain. Acupuncture for dogs has good results and the treatment is usually calming and can make your dog sleepy.

Acupuncture for dogs will improve blood flow, muscles to relax and inflammation.

Conditions That Benefit from Acupuncture

Arthritis in dogs is uncomfortable and painful but acupuncture for dogs is a great option to improve the quality of our dog’s day-to-day life. Muscle sprains can benefit from this treatment too; acupuncture can also work well alongside other treatments we provide as Vets. Laser Therapy works well to treat pain and quicken healing processes. Depending on the condition your dog is in, our vets can recommend the best course of treatment and the best way forward.

Pain as a result of disc disease and other spinal/bone pain can be treated with acupuncture for dogs. Functional conditions like irritable bowel problems in dogs can respond well to acupuncture as well as a variety of skin conditions. Depending on the affected area of the dog’s body, acupuncture needles can be placed in various places.

Course of Treatment

Unlike medicated courses for pain, acupuncture for dogs has no set doses, it is judged based on your pet’s response to the needles and how severe their pain is. If your dog returns home and sleeps for a while, this is a good sign, they shouldn’t be treated any differently during this course of treatment or after. Their exercise and diet should remain normal unless your vet discusses otherwise. The sessions will usually last around 30 minutes, it is not a long procedure.

Acupuncture treatment courses are typically scheduled to take place once a week over the span of four to six weeks. After four weeks, further treatment can be considered if necessary. This treatment will involve slowly tailing off so that it doesn’t come to a complete end, as this might not be effective.

Your dog will be assessed before referral to examine the parts of the body that require attention and note their medical history.
